Week 8 Notices

 Kia ora whānau,

It was so great to see you at the Gala on Friday evening. I'm sure you will all agree that it had a 'buzzing' atmosphere and the kids had an awesome time. Thank you again for all of your support. 

Things on this week:

Swimming Sports:

  • When: This Monday 22nd March for our Kahikatea and Totara teams.
  • Where: The swimming sports will be held at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre on Tarewa Road in Rotorua..
  • Time: Years 3 – 6 students need to be dropped off at the Aquatic Centre on the day to meet their teacher by 8:45 am. Swimming sports will finish at approximately 2:30 pm.
  • Clothing and gear: Children may come to swimming sports in their house colours, they may wear their togs under their clothes. Everyone needs togs & towels, sunhat, sunblock, warm clothes, lunch & a drink.
  • End of the day: Children need to be collected from the Aquatic Centre by 3:00pm at the latest. If your child attends After School Care or they usually catch the bus home they will be picked up from the Aquatic Centre at 2:30 pm. If you are unable to drop off or pick up your child from the Aquatic Centre please email Lorna Dobson.
  • Cancellation: Should the event need to be cancelled this information will be put on our website by 7:30am and a notification sent via Facebook, Educa and the school phone app.
  • Whānau: Whānau support will be needed on the day to help, especially in the pool. Some of our children are reluctant swimmers and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Wednesday - Rice Day: Each year as a caritas fundraiser, and for those who survive on a bowl of rice a day, St Mary’s with participate in the rice day challenge. Your child will be provided with rice for lunch. They will please need to bring a bowl/cup, spoon/fork and a gold coin donation. All students are expected to participate, it is a good experience too feel what limited choices and plain food feels like. Please, unless your child has special dietary requirement, do not buy or provide school lunch on this day. Thank you!

Friday - House Golden Time (house group Mill Hill) Friendly Reminders:

- Chromebooks need to come to school charged. As we are a BYOD school, many of our learning activities now require devices. Headphones are essential please. - Each child needs a school hat. They can be purchased from the uniform shop for $13.
- Please LABEL your children's clothing, we have quite a few issues with shorts/dresses ending up on the wrong body.
- If you need headphones still, Kmart, The Warehouse, or school have them ranging in price from $8
-Please collect bread tags and yummy stickers, if you need a chart please have your child come see Mrs. Dinniss

  Rm 14/15 2021 Teachers: Tai Waititi and Sophie Bowie Kia Ora Tatou. I’m Tai but in the class setting I am known as Mrs YTT, mama and yes sometimes nana. Learning in Weeks 4, 5 and 6

Hi everyone, just playing catch up and realising I have photos and videos of the kids learning from a few weeks ago. Week 4: Cross Country Photos Measuring length and understanding what 1m is. Week 5: Samoan Language Week: The children were learning to sing a Samoan song about the hibiscus flower. Mighty Mathematicians Learning about arrays and how these fit in with multiplication. Skip counting to solve multiplication. Week 6: Mighty Mathematicians:Solving simple division by sharing into equal groups.

  Tena koutou. We hope all our mothers were treated with some lovely surprises today. Happy Mother's Day to all our beautiful mothers! Most of our students completed a virtual Mother's Day card. It will be in their google drive account. Please keep in your prayers those children who no longer have their mothers with them. I wanted to thank everyone for the time you took last week to be involved in your child's goal setting for this term. It was a pleasure to see all of my parents and also to meet new parents. Our children looked so charming in their national costumes dressing up for 'Children’s World of Prayer' day. They looked so proud to be part of this. The mini-marathon on Friday was a great day out. It's nice to see our whanau support, running, and cheering on our tamariki thank you.
